In 2004 she got accepted into 5-year residency training (from 2004-2009) in Occupational and Environmental Medicine, at University of Alberta. This program is a very unique branch of medicine which is designed to teach physicians medicine with focus on work-related issues. Since graduating, Dr. Rani has gained great experience in the field of occupational medicine. She worked as a consultant with WCB (workers compensation board) for many years dealing with occupational injuries and diseases, and a great part of this practice includes assessing work-relatedness of the medical condition in question.

Another big component of her practice includes chronic pain management and disability management. The main goal is to help employees return to work in pre-accident or modified capacity and design a return to work program, acceptable to both employee and employers.
