Definition - What does Hematocrit mean?

Hematocrit (Ht) is the percentage of whole blood that is made up of red blood cells. This is a measure that considers both the number and the size of the red blood cells and the percentage of its presence by volume. A low or high hematocrit number can indicate diverse health conditions that will impact negatively on work productivity.

SureHire explains Hematocrit

Workplace health programs generally consider hematocrit testing as part of routine testing to determine overall health of employees in a workplace. Low hematocrit will indicate anemia, blood loss, bone marrow failure, destruction of red blood cells, malnutrition, multiple myeloma, or even rheumatoid arthritis. High hematocrit levels will be closely related to dehydration, eclampsia, erythrocytosis, or even polycythemia vera. These conditions, if not tested and treated, will impact on employee heath and reduce the productivity of a company.
