Definition - What does Ventral mean?

Ventral is an anatomic orientation term referring to the front or anterior part of the body. Ventral can also be used to describe anything relating to the belly.

SureHire explains Ventral

Ventral is used in medical terminology to give a location of a condition or organ. Because it is used to describe the general location of something, the word ventral is often paired with another word to define it more specifically in relation to the orientation of the host organ or body part. For instance, a ventral hernia is one that is located in the abdominal wall, or on a person's front side. The phrase ventral cavity refers to the chest, abdomen, and pelvic cavities. With regard to body structure, when not referring to structures and conditions around the belly, ventral is mean to represent the chest, abdomen, shins, palms of the hands, and soles of the feet.
